The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Banco Santander have signed two agreements, under the guarantee of the Investment Plan for Europe, designed, on the one hand, to provide financing to Spanish SMEs and, on the other hand, to contribute to the development of investments In renewable energies.

The first agreement is a new EIB instrument to share credit risk between the two institutions. This financial instrument will enable Banco Santander to expand its lending capacity to finance new investments in Spanish SMEs, which will thus be able to benefit from the favorable financing conditions provided by the EIB, both in terms of repayment terms and interest rates .

Specifically, the EIB’s involvement in a loan portfolio of EUR 500 million will help Banco Santander to provide EUR 1 billion in financing for SME projects. The objective of this funding is to support the competitiveness of Spanish companies to boost economic growth and job creation.

Support for renewable energies and infrastructures

In addition, the EIB and Banco Santander have signed another joint venture agreement to help Banco Santander finance new renewable energy projects with an investment cost of at least 400 million euros.
